Question from NCrowley

Whats your views on iPod democracy? Is it always democratic? ;-)

Answer:

iPod democracy* is democratic at the start, until of course drink takes over then everyone is fighting for the iPod

*iPod democracy is when we're drinking, everyone who's in the room takes turns on putting on the next song. The name is somewhat ironic, considering it's the music Nazi's who end up dominating. When this occurs the 'far rightPod' has taken over. Dictators will remain nameless

Well...fair play to yez boyz, out there doin it? Hah?! I have to commend you all for hangin in there and working your way up the rungs of the greasy ladder, sweet sufferin' jasus but aren't yez like a second coming!

Q: What do you think will be the reason that may cause you to sunder? Drug abuse? Alcoholism (linked to former)? Egotism (Nev...!)? Songwriting drought? Plane crash a la Buddy Holly?

I believe you have many more years left in ya and good luck with em!

Ps: Maybe you could do an open air concert in Trim someday? In the castle grounds or maybe the church (Youthmass say mass)

Question from Mur

I work in an office with mostly men and have become really friendly with one guy in particular.

We just hit it off straight away and share loads of interests. We have a laugh too as our sense of humour is very similar. We even wear our hair the same way.

Although my girlfriends never met him she's always niggling at me with jealous comments. She's even threatened to come round to the office and 'jimmy 'ead butt the cunt'.

What can I do?

Answer:

Hmmm this is one of the more interesting questions we've received, thanks. From reading your question i can immediately identify that there are some 'trust issues' at play here. Have you tried talking to your partner? Let her know how important she is to you, communication is key to success in any trusting relationship... then she is way more likely to turn a blind eye to your blatant homosexual tendancies and you'll be blowing that guy before you can say 'Appletini's after work mate?

Question from JAMMAN

Where do yas do your recordings? Looking to start doing my own stuff and don't know where to go

Answer:

All of our releases have been recorded with Shane Cullen in K9 Studio he seems to be the man of the moment for dublin recording these days, he's just done the new Squarehead album and stuff for The Last Days of 1984 which has bloggers the world over wetting their panties. He also does all the live sessions for Phantom FM's ICON show too. He's easy on the eye and has Super Nintendo hooked up to a big screen projector for all you nerds out there

Question from wELL

Kells or Navan?

Answer:

Now this is toughie... while both towns boast significant aesthetic beauty (ahem!), i'll have to break it down. Kells is a town i have familiar feelings for... I was best man at the archetypal Kells man wedding, I know and have drank with half of Kells, certain people from Kells (you know who you are) introduced me to the coolest sounds of all time like My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus and Marychain, it was a Kells band who inspired me to not be a mouthy critic and to start my own band. So taking all of that into account... Navan

Question from Dylan

Can you please post up the lyrics to Tunnels and Only Cunts Buy Vinyl cause i cant make all the words out and its been wrecking my head for ages ! Thanks :)

Answer

Ah Dylan, you've no idea how often we get asked for the lyrics to our hits (never). Here ya go, now don't be disappointed with their mediocrity

Tunnels

Every time I feel like letting go

Happens all the time I cant say no

Theres a beast thats living deep within

Theres a beast destroying everything

As I run the walls keep closing in

A claustrophobic ring thats tunnelling

All emotions straight right to the brain

All emotions bursting every vein

She is no good for me I know

Every time I taste her lips it shows

Theres a circle turning every night..

Tunnels without lights.

When a loose tongue, lashes like a whip

And theres no control deck on this ship

A misanthropic murmur through the waves

A misanthropic murmur: jealous rage

Drink, reflect and rebuild, drink, reflect

And rebuilding all the relationships wrecked

Theres a storm that passed by here last night

Theres a storm with me, for the rest of my life

Only Cunts Buy Vinyl

Scenesters, skinny jeans

Acting like its 1979

Tiny ties, wears scarfs inside,

Don’t know what world you’re from, it’s not mine.

Love all the typical

Burroughs, Orwell, Thompson, Gertrude Stein

Shoe gaze, new wave, any craze

Pitchfork shapes your pseudo muso mind.

You summer in, Berlin… cause that’s where the cool folks go!

You’re studying Nietzsche, Cause that’s what the cool folk know!

Guest list, Elitist

God forbid you’d ever wait in line

Dining out with girls who pout,

Boring those trout faced harlots with your knowledge of wine

Question from Sarah

I have a serious problem and at this stage I don’t know where or who to turn to, so hopefully you can help. I’m a girl and have been going out with my boyfriend for almost 3 and a half years now. Over this time I have found out that he was cheating on me a few times. At first I thought it was me so I started to dress up,do role play and try to be an overall more exciting gf. And for a time I thought everything was back to normal. I believed that he had changed his ways but I recently found out that he was cheating on me with my best friend for the best part of a year. I was devastated and hurt and really wanted to get him and my so called friend back. I did something really stupid…I slept with a lot of guys unprotected so as to get a STD so I could then pass it onto him and my “best friend”…unfortunately one should be careful for what they wish for. I got herpes and passed it onto my boyfriend last week. But then things took a turn for the worse. Just 2days ago I found out that they are expecting a child. I know I have given my bf herpes and I know that giving a pregnant woman this type of disease can be harmful for the child. I really don’t know what to do…one part of me is wishing them harm, another part of me doesn’t want to harm this unborn child..i;m so confused and feel stupid if I tell anyone the true story that I actually tried to get a std! Please help me YM Sarah

Answer:

Well now Sarah, I honestly don't know what to say to you here. I must commend your imaginative revenge scheme. However it did backfire on your morality though didn't it?? If I were you I'd just say nothing to no one. Thanks for the question.

Question from Diarmuid

Apart from the YM what other new Irish bands would you recommend that i mightn't have heard of yet?

Answer:

I'm all about this Moths stuff at the moment... touching electronic music that belongs in the same playground as Boards Of Canada or Luke Abbott. The lad's only a kid who's just done his leaving and by god i hate him for it!

Check out my favourite track of his '<3'

 <3 by MOTHS

Another current favourite is hotly tipped Last Days Of !984

The first time i heard their track Rivers Edge, my first reaction to swoon was immediately consumed by furious jealousy. This is the best compliment I can give any song! So I have finally come to terms with it's greatness and can appreciate it like you will now...

 ▲▲L▲ST D∆YS OF 1984▲▲ - RIVER'S EDGE (Radio Edit) by ▲▲L▲ST D∆YS OF 1984▲▲

As you can probably tell  by now i'm all about the electronic boyo's at the moment, so I may aswell tell you about my favourite electronic Irish act, The Holy Roman Army. I fell in love with the brother/ sister combo, Chris and Laura Coffey, when we did a gig with them a few years back in Whelans. Their debut album How The Light Gets In  released in June 09 is beautiful. Their follow up was an EP of five cover songs Desecrations, which sounds on paper like a wrong turn but in reality displayed the bands ability to interpret classic tracks in their own blissed out style.  Next up is their second album, which i do believe, is nearing completion. A few months back we were given a sneak preview of one of the tracks off it Rope and by golly, it blew me away:

 Rope (demo) by theholyromanarmy

So there you go... and if you're broke, Moths and Last Days of 1984 tracks are free to download on Soundcloud and you can get HRA's Desecrations for nought on Band Camp.

Question from Jack

Favourite guilty pleasure?

Answer:

In no particular order:

Teen movies (10 Things I Hate About You, Just My Luck etc.), Limp Bizkit, Battered Sausages, The E Channel, Bryan McFadden's Twitter Account (I find it hard to articulate my hatred for him, all i know is that reading his tweets justifies it and hence gives me pleasure), hating stuff before i've seen it/ heard it purely just to go against the grain (Dark Knight)

Question from Bone Collector

How many bones has a grown up got? I heard a child’s got more bones than a grown ups got, is this true?

Answer:

Believe it or not this is true, you see a child’s got loads of little bones, so he/she needs to drink milk so these little bones grow into each other making big bones.

And that’s a natural law

Of course alter boys and borstal boys have more bones in them than normal boys don't forget.

Question from Jason Mc

Do you think Meath has a good scene for music?

Answer:

Well considering the lack of venues in Meath, not really. Although I hear the new Swan Lane place in Navan is promising. Lynch’s in Trim is also a cracking place.

As for bands Ham Sandwich are leading the way really aren’t they? Their new album is genuinely savage and should have received a choice nomination. Saw Red Queen Contest play there recently in Slane and they were brilliant too.
